READING READINESS
Preschool builds a background for understanding in reading--through discussion, conversations, and expanding vocabulary; and of writing--through the recognition of words, identifying names, labels, and objects. Your child will grow--through learning to follow directions, careful listening, developing ability to see likenesses and differences, and becoming familiar with symbols. A phonetic background will be built by learning the correct pronunciation of sounds and sound combinations through phonetic games and group study of rhymes, by learning and listening to poems and stories, by making up their own stories, and by observing perception sequence.
BEGINNING OF SCIENCE
Preschool encourages your child to ask questions, to explore, to carefully observe, to experiment, and to test thereby learning the wonders of the world around them. We make educational trips into various fields such as the library, farm, theater, and fire station. This way, we learn many things about plants, animals, community helpers, books, businesses, and machines.
USE OF NUMBERS
Children learn to count in many practical ways - including using a calendar. They learn concepts such as big and little, more and less, many and few. They enjoy rhymes and songs and learn to use numbers correctly in many activities such as reading, making measurements, and role playing.
DEVELOPING FINE ARTS
Preschool helps children to live creatively. They learn many songs and develop an appreciation for art and music. Opportunities are given for dramatic play and creative thinking. Each child has opportunities to express themselves before the group, thus developing self confidence. Many activities such as handling crayons, pencils, paint brushes, blunt-nose scissors, and other materials help children develop and coordinate the smaller muscles and give them confidence and control to begin printing. Each child learns to care for the tools they use and respect the belongings of others.
